Week 3 4/18/11

Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss: 1. your main character's personality. 2. how they act/behave. 3. what they look like. 4. how old they are.5. what sort of education do you think that they have.6. who their friends and family are.7. what their financial (money) situation is. 8. and what their job is (if they have one).

I am now still reading Beastly By: Alex Flinn. So far I am still liking it. But right now I think I love this book. I'm getting bombed that I'm almost finished with the book. Plus it seems to be getting easier and easier to read.
My main character is a guy. His name is Kyle Kingsburry, but now he has changed his name Adrian ( in the book on page 122 he say that it means "The dark one"). In the book it really doesn't describe him until he get turn into a beast. On page 47-48 the book describes Kyle. It says "I was a beast. I was an animal ---not quite wolf or bear or gorilla or dog, but some horrible species that walked upright, that was almost human, yet not. Fangs grew from my mouth, my fingers were clawed, and hair grew from every pore. I, who'd looked down on people with zits or halitosis, was a monster.....I was an animal, and my animal voice formed not words, but sounds I couldn't have made before." In that part I think that he realized that he was like everyone that he judged on there looks. With that it helps me find out what his personality is like, his personality is the spoiled kind of kid and judgmental kind. his dad is rich and so his dad give him a lot of money. But Kyle doesn't work, but he does go to school. He is in high school so I'd think of him to be either 15 - 18 I'm not sure yet i don't think that the book said what grade he is in.
Well now that he's been turned into a beast he has change how he acts and how he behaves. He acts much more nicer than he did before. Now that he has he has a girl that he loves and he's not so  sure that she loves him back. So now that he know that he loves her he's afraid to tell her, because he thinks that she might laugh in his face and/or tell him that she doesn't love him back. And when she keeps referring to them as just friends he get upset.
His dad, maid (Magda), tutor (Will), and friend (Lindy), are the only people in his life. His dad is a news reporter so he gets paid a lot of money. Magda is his maid, but later on in the book she become his friend. Will is Kyle's tutor, but as well as Magda he becomes Kyle's friend. Will also became Lindy's tutor after she moves in with Kyle. Lindy is the girl that was offered to Kyle by her dad in exchange for not getting reported to the police.

Week 2 4/7/11

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.

I am currently reading Beastly By Alex Finn, I got this book from Rachel. She said it was a good book, so far I am liking this book. So it is kind of easy plus hard to read, there are parts that can get confusing, but I can eventually figure out what the things that get confusing are. But other than that it's a pretty good book.

The back cover of the book has various things on it, such as the description of the book. Also the catch phrase " LOVE IS NEVER UGLY". The catch phrase is in bold capital letters, the font is in a sort of baby blue color. Then at the bottom of the book is like a movie dedication, well since the book is also a movie you'd expect it to be there. The back of the book is black as well as the rest of the book.

With this two alternate titles for the book that appeal to me probably be close to the book title.
Alternate title 1:Beauty to Beast-Catch phrase "You were once beautiful now your ugly."
Alternate title 2:Think Before you Judge Someone-Catch phrase "Watch what you say it could happen to you."

I think I would choose the first alternate title "Beauty to Beast". I would choose that one because Beastly is mostly about thus guy named Kyle Kindsbury. His father is rich so he's basically rich too. So he goes to this school for the rich and beautiful. He usually judges people on there looks. So when Kendra comes along and watches what Kyle does, she decides that he need to feel what it's like to be the other person. I think it's a sort of don't judge people thing or maybe it's the thing were you do something and it comes back on you. I don't know what's that called so yeah. So one night after the dance Kyle manages to get home from his girl friends house. He finds Kindra (who's a witch by the way) sitting on his bed. That's when it all happens, Kyle becomes Beastly.

There are various things that i would choose for the movie poster. I think I  would choose a dark gray kind of back ground. I would have a kind of gray scale color of a bridge. The bridge will have a couple on it and beastly would be under the bridge. It would be night time. There would be a moon, the moon would be full and dark. While beastly was under the bridge this girl about his age would be running to the under neath of the bridge. She'd see Beastly and smile unlike the other people under the bridge, who would be running away. Beastly would be wearing a long black cape, black jeans, and a black shirt. The girl would be wearing about the same thing but she's wearing a long black dress with a sweater. She'd be looking towards beastly.

I have only made it partly through the book so I think that the first title would still be good. I haven't seen the movie yet but i really want to. So I will read the book first.

Week 1 book blog

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

Ghost In The Machine by Patrick Carman. Scholastic Press,2009. Paranormal. I know the book is paranormal from the text, because in the book it talks about this ghost (the ghost of Old Joe Bush) that haunts the dredge.I can't tell that the book is a paranormal book from the back of the book, because it just has skulls on the back of the book and the front of the book. I can tell the book is paranormal from the title page, because it says "Ghost In The Machine" and when it says ghost I know that ghosts are paranormal.
The cover has skulls on it. It look like any normal journal. It has some stains on it like the person who wrote in the journal. Under the title is a tape looking thing that says "Ryan's Journal." The book has reddish color skulls on it.

One of the main characters is Ryan McCray. He has an injured leg that he got while at the dredge. He thinks  that the ghost of Old Joe Bush pushed him over the rail of the balcony that he was standing on. And yes I have met him. I met him on the very first page of the book. He was also in the first book called "Skeleton Creek".

Sarah Fincher is also one of the main characters. She Ryan's best friend in both book. But ever since the accident she's not aloud to see or talk to Ryan. Ryan's parent think that she responsible for Ryan's injured leg. Yes I have met her.I  met her one the first page as well. Sarah is also in the first book "Skeleton Creek".

One other main character is the ghost of Old Joe Bush.He died at the dredge. His pant leg got caught in the gears and they drag him through them. Then they spit him out into the water. He drowned it the lake. Now he haunts the dredge. And now Ryan and Sarah. I met him in the first page of this book. The very first time I met him was in Skeleton Creek.

I'm have just recently finished this book. It had an unexpected ending. I actually didn't expect what happened. I really think I am going to try and read the next book. I really like this book. Also I liked the first book too. But the part I like the most in this book was when Ryan and Sarah were in the dredge at the end of the book. When the found out the mystery. But since there's another book I think the mystery is not over yet. I can't wait until I get to read the next book.
