Week 3 4/18/11

Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss: 1. your main character's personality. 2. how they act/behave. 3. what they look like. 4. how old they are.5. what sort of education do you think that they have.6. who their friends and family are.7. what their financial (money) situation is. 8. and what their job is (if they have one).

I am now still reading Beastly By: Alex Flinn. So far I am still liking it. But right now I think I love this book. I'm getting bombed that I'm almost finished with the book. Plus it seems to be getting easier and easier to read.
My main character is a guy. His name is Kyle Kingsburry, but now he has changed his name Adrian ( in the book on page 122 he say that it means "The dark one"). In the book it really doesn't describe him until he get turn into a beast. On page 47-48 the book describes Kyle. It says "I was a beast. I was an animal ---not quite wolf or bear or gorilla or dog, but some horrible species that walked upright, that was almost human, yet not. Fangs grew from my mouth, my fingers were clawed, and hair grew from every pore. I, who'd looked down on people with zits or halitosis, was a monster.....I was an animal, and my animal voice formed not words, but sounds I couldn't have made before." In that part I think that he realized that he was like everyone that he judged on there looks. With that it helps me find out what his personality is like, his personality is the spoiled kind of kid and judgmental kind. his dad is rich and so his dad give him a lot of money. But Kyle doesn't work, but he does go to school. He is in high school so I'd think of him to be either 15 - 18 I'm not sure yet i don't think that the book said what grade he is in.
Well now that he's been turned into a beast he has change how he acts and how he behaves. He acts much more nicer than he did before. Now that he has he has a girl that he loves and he's not so  sure that she loves him back. So now that he know that he loves her he's afraid to tell her, because he thinks that she might laugh in his face and/or tell him that she doesn't love him back. And when she keeps referring to them as just friends he get upset.
His dad, maid (Magda), tutor (Will), and friend (Lindy), are the only people in his life. His dad is a news reporter so he gets paid a lot of money. Magda is his maid, but later on in the book she become his friend. Will is Kyle's tutor, but as well as Magda he becomes Kyle's friend. Will also became Lindy's tutor after she moves in with Kyle. Lindy is the girl that was offered to Kyle by her dad in exchange for not getting reported to the police.

  1. Laura,
I'm glad that you are liking the book. It's one of my favorites as well. I wonder, how could you have supported your thinking with evidence from the text? Also, what would your response have looked like if you had made sure to answer all of the questions from it?

    Grade: 3 PP-

Next Steps: Make sure that you are answering all of the questions from the response fully and that you are checking your mechanics and spelling before publishing something for final grading.
